Danny Driver
Danny Driver was educated at Cambridge University and at the Royal College of Music, winning several awards including the Royal Over-Seas League Competition Keyboard Award and the title of BBC Radio 2 Young Musician of the Year on completing his studies in 2001.
Danny will make his BBC Proms debut in August 2011 at the
Royal Albert Hall following performances of Rachmaninoffʼs
Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Orchestra of Opera
North (also at the RAH) and Rachmaninoffʼs Piano
Concerto No. 3 at Hong Kong City Hall. Recent and
current recital appearances include a major recital at the
Wigmore Hall, the Houston International Piano Festival,
Husum Piano Festival (Germany), Australian Chamber Music
Festival and English Music Festival. In addition, he will
make a second recording with the BBC Scottish Symphony
Orchestra under conductor Rory Macdonald in June 2011.
Danny Driver appears regularly at the Wigmore Hall and has
given several performances at the South Bank Centre,
Manchesterʼs Bridgewater Hall and Symphony Hall in
Birmingham. He has performed as soloist and chamber
musician at festivals including Bard (New York), Felicja
Blumental (Israel), Windsor, Chichester, and Myra Hess Day
at Londonʼs National Gallery, and has worked with
orchestras including the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra,
the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Tel-Aviv Soloists, the
American Symphony Orchestra, and the Louisiana Philharmonic
Orchestra.
As a Hyperion recording artist, Danny Driver has garnered
consistent international acclaim for his recordings of
music by York Bowen, C P E Bach and, most recently, Mily
Balakirev. His double-disc of Bowenʼs six Piano Sonatas was
nominated for a 2010 Gramophone Award, and his disc of C P
E Keyboard Sonatas was selected by National Public Radio
(USA) as one of the Top Ten Classical CDs of 2010, as well
as being singled out by Gramophone Magazine (Editorʼs
Choice), International Piano Magazine, and the Daily
Telegraph (5 stars). Future releases are to include the
piano music of English composer Benjamin Dale and a second
disc of C P E Bach Keyboard works.
Danny Driver performs a particularly broad range of solo
and chamber music from the baroque period to the present
day, and has enjoyed fruitful collaborations with
violinists Alexander Sitkovetsky and Thomas Gould, ʻcellist
Oliver Coates, singers Ailish Tynan, Rebecca Nelsen, and
Christian Immler, the Linos Wind Quintet, clarinetists
Alexander Fiterstein and Sarah Williamson, and reader
Gabriel Woolf. He is currently working on a Ligeti piano
music project at Kingʼs Place in London with renouned video
artist Netia Jones
